M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women (Autonomous) is committed to empowering women through holistic education, academic excellence, research, and innovation. Established on 13th July 1992 through the joint vision of Dewan Bahadur M.O. Parthasarathy Aiyengar Charities and Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, the college began its journey with just three programmes. Over the past 33 years, it has evolved into a premier institution offering 19 Undergraduate, 8 Postgraduate, and 3 Ph.D. programmes across the disciplines of Commerce, Communication & Media Studies, and Business Administration, catering to a vibrant community of around 4,000 students.
Reaccredited with an 'A++' grade and a CGPA of 3.55 in its 4th NAAC cycle, M.O.P. stands among the youngest colleges in India to be granted Autonomy by the UGC and the University of Madras. The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women has been delivering quality education across diverse areas of Information Technology, focusing on both scientific knowledge and application-oriented learning to nurture professional excellence. The department aims to provide students with a strong foundation and industry-relevant skills in their chosen domains.
The department offers B.Sc. Computer Science (1994), BCA (1999), B.Sc. Data Science (2021), B.Sc. Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence (2025), and M.Sc. Information Technology (2003). Currently, the department has a dedicated team of 18 faculty members and serves a student community of over 600.
Key pillars supporting this vision include a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, integration and usage of freeware tools to encourage cost-effective and real-world learning, and an industry-aligned curriculum designed to make students industry-ready from day one. Established in 1992 alongside M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, the B.Sc. Mathematics programme has built a legacy of excellence, fostering analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills. With a strong foundation in pure and applied mathematics, rigorous coursework, research opportunities, computational tools and expert faculty, with their practical applications in fields such as Computer science, Finance, and Actuarial science, make significant contributions to both academia as well as industry.
