The uniqueness of this course is an amalgamation of media and management, providing the right mix of media knowledge and management expertise to students. The course provides great emphasis on the realities of media, with a wide range of subjects like Event & Project Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing and Media Relations Management, Customer Relationship, Media Planning, as well as Public Relations and Advertising Campaigns covering media business and management techniques. This facilitates them to occupy managerial positions in the Media industry. The course provides a one month internship at the end of the first year and a three month internship during the fourth semester.

Experts from the field are invited to speak to the students in all areas related to their course. Some of the recent lectures were as follows:-

Other than the subjects mentioned above, the following practical aspects of the course are conducted on a semester basis. A unique feature is that all their campaigns are LIVE and they work for existing brands.
Public Relations Campaigns and Event Management
Public Relations and campaigning for a noble cause is an important component of the course wherein students organize an event and arrange the budget. Their task starts from the very beginning which includes research, SWOT & PEST analysis, Planning, Execution and finally a Post event analysis of the campaign.
The Internal campaign for “Penn Kalvi”, a very successful marathon in Chennai city, for the cause of the girl child was conducted by the department.
The most recent campaign conducted by the department was on September 6th, 2017 on “Save the Drop – Water Matters” a Campaign on the Need for Water Conservation. The following experts and eminent Chennaites spoke to the students and lent their cooperation towards the campaign. Mr. Badava Gopi, Eminent RJ and Standup Comedian; Mr. C. Gopinath, Vijay TV Anchor; Mr. Nithyanand Jayaraman, Environmental Activist; & Ms. Latha Maheshwari, Sand artist from Chennai. The target audience on whom they focussed their attention was the College students and students of MOP School, Triplicane, Chennai.
The department conducted an event for the cause of Cerebral Palsy on August 11th, 2017 by joining hands with Inner Strength 2017 – the UNIS Marathon which was run to create awareness on Celebral Palsy and its Early Intervention. The Resource people included Ms. Viji Swaminathan, Marathon runner & UNIS Founder; Dr. Rashmi & Dr. Smita, Physiotherapists; and Mr. Ranish, UNIS Co-Founder.
This is an interesting paper where the girls have to choose a Corporate and its competitor and do Media Mapping and Tracking to find out how much media coverage is being envisioned by the company and the nuances of budgeting for it. Some of the Corporates studied have been Apple, Amazon, Big Basket, Patanjali, Uber, etc. just to name a few.
The students have to do a LIVE campaign, wherein they target start up companies and promote them in the market. Their work includes doing a Situation analysis, Competitor analysis, Target analysis and Product analysis. They also do a Creative & Media Strategy and do the promotions on all the media. The students have had rave reviews from the start up companies which have included new clothing, jewellery, food and other lifestyle brands.
Social Media Management:
Here, once again students are taught the nuances of marketing and promoting companies online. Their main objectives include critically assessing and evaluating Search Engine Optimization of the brand, and improving its visibility and reach. They work with LIVE brands.
The department students have been placed well. They have been placed as Event Managers, Account Executives, Public Relations Officers, Content Producers, Lead Corporate Communication & Brand Executives, Marketing And Corporate Communication Executives and Publishing Consultants to name a few.
The various companies in which they have been placed include Lowe Lintas, The Hindu, Mindshare Pvt. Ltd., Sun Network, Vijay TV, to name a few. A few of them have also been entrepreneurs and started their own Event management companies.
