The Department of Computer Applications focuses on empowering students onward with its discernment on competency in theoretical, programming, communication, teamwork, organization and management skills.  BCA at M.O.P is an exhilarant professional discipline with diverse and well-balanced technical and soft skills, offering numerous career opportunities. Apart from imparting various skill courses, students are also motivated to do research work in their domain interest.

The key strategic goal of the course is to embark students towards research and real time projects as they prepare for their future careers in their chosen professions

The Department is well equipped with smart classrooms and an exclusive Audio Visual Computer Lab for the BCA Students with latest systems which are well networked. Students are provided hands on experience on all the latest programming languages in addition to the internet facilities through Wi-Fi enabled campus.

Online Club

 

 

 

The various activities conducted by the department club ‘ONLINE’ include the yearly edition of intercollegiate (OLAP) and interdepartmental (LINK) technical fests organized in order to explore and exhibit their talents in their interested domain of IT.

 

International Conference – ICCCMIT

An International Conference on Communication, Computing and Information Technology (ICCCMIT) is organized by the department bi-decennially, providing a platform for academia , research scholars and professionals from industry as well as students to discuss, share and disseminate innovative views on recent trends and

 

development in communication , computing and information technology. So far, 3 international conferences have been held in the 2012, 2014 and 2017.

Department Journal

The department inculcates the art of article writing skills amongst students by means of publishing the thematic department journal “Computer Almanac”. Some of the key topics of this journal include open source technology, cyber security, Data Mining and 5G technologies.

Computer Fair

The department conducts a Computer Fair annually which showcases all practical usage of the knowledge gained by the students through real time projects.

Course Overview Exhibition are held for school students in order to make them aware of the course through posters and models containing all the information about the department.

 

VIGYAN – Vaishnav Initiative for Gyaan Dhaan

The 25th year of the college was declared as year of Dhaan. The department of Computer Science came up with the idea of gyaan dhaan – providing computer skills to less privileged children. The programme designed was “Imparting Basic Computer and Presentation skills for junior students of Ananya-The Learning Center of Madras Dyslexia Association. The students were trained on basic working with MS-Word and MS-Paint. 31 students were academically benefitted.

The MOP student trainers were thoroughly professional, responsible and very committed in teaching the Ananya students. They volunteered to take up this project and have put in hours beyond college working hours. Since the school did not have computer facility, the MOP students took their personal laptop to ensure 1:1 teacher:learner ratio.

Academic Achievements

The students showcase their serious commitment towards academics. The students have displayed a pass percentage of more than 90% over the last 5 years.

Research Initiatives

Students of BCA under the guidance of staff members have published research papers in various International Journals like IJCA, IJAER, JCOMSS etc and they have presented and published 25 research papers on latest trending topics in various National and International conferences and International Journals.

Internships and Placements

Students are also led in the right direction to pursue an internship in various top companies like Goldman Sachs, HCL, Infosys and more. The unique curriculum, communication and presentation skills have made the students to reach their speculated positions in top IT companies. The average package is 2.5 lakhs p.a and more than 90% of the registered students placed in top notch MNCs every year.

 

Workshops and Seminars

 

 

 

Special Workshops are conducted by eminent personalities from various IT companies in order for the students to understand the practical applications of the latest changes in technology. The students are also exposed to various Seminars and Guest Lectures by IT experts, thus gaining immense knowledge on current trending topics.

 

Student Award and Recognition

 

Students take part in various intercollegiate symposiums and win a lot of prizes, and the overall trophies as well. For the year 2015-16, at the Chennai District level, the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in e-Governance for Students was won by the BCA students of M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women for developing an Android APP. The students were rewarded Rs.10, 000 by Collector  E.Sundaravalli IAS. The project has been nominated for the State level award.

Online Courses

Students are also encouraged to register for online courses provided by various reputed international and national universities. Some of the online courses certifications done by the students includes R programming, Oracle, Python Programming, Mobile Application Development, Social Media and Cyber security.
